Hydrotherapy for dogs

The underwater treadmill uses water properties, such as buoyancy, resistance, and hydrostatic pressure to reduce weight bearing, help build muscle mass and strength, and increase joint mobility in a safe and controlled environment. This is all supported and guided with a hydrotherapist in the water.

How hydrotherapy works?

Using our underwater treadmill, Hydrotherapy uses the buoyancy and resistance of water to reduce joint strain, build muscle strength, and improve your pet’s movement in a safe and controlled environment.

This is a perfect therapy for those wanting to facilitate recovery from surgery, those managing joint pain, or pets wanting to enhance fitness, strength and conditioning.

FAQs

  • This is not unusual.  For pets who dislike water, or the treadmill, we take our time introducing them to the therapy.  It may be that they only spend 5 minutes in the water, and the rest of the session is land-based physio. As time goes by their confidence will grow and they will be happy to spend more time in the water.  Despite this being the normal case, there are still some pets that will never take to hydrotherapy.  For these patients we adapt their therapy plan to solely land based treatments, tailored to their individual needs so they don’t miss out!

  • Our hydrotherapy sessions form part of a comprehensive treatment plan for your pet.  See our price list for full details.

  • Many insurance policies do cover the cost of pet treatments. You will need to check your policy to find out if it’s covered, looking for the words "pet therapies”, “hydrotherapy”, "physiotherapy" or "rehabilitation." If you’re not sure if it’s covered please check with your insurance provider.

Please note: you will need to cover the cost of the treatment up front.

  • Most pets benefit from a series of 5-15 sessions. The specific number will depend on your pet’s condition and progress.

  • Sessions typically last 1 hour, including preparation and post-session care.  The time in the water may vary depending on your pet’s tolerance of the water.
